Two days is the first length at which you can cross the Golden Horn properly. Day one is the old city; day two is Beyoğlu and the hill. Do not try to interleave them.
The plan
- Day 1 — The one-day plan above, unhurried — Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, cistern, Eminönü, the ferry.
- Day 2, morning — The Grand Bazaar — not on a Sunday — entering from Beyazıt and walking Kalpakçılar Caddesi end to end, then turning off it at random.
- Day 2, midday — Uphill to Süleymaniye. Free, quieter than anything in Sultanahmet, and the terrace over the Golden Horn is the view people pay for elsewhere.
- Day 2, afternoon — Down to Eminönü, over the Galata Bridge on foot, and up through Galata. The Tünel funicular saves the steepest part.
- Day 2, evening — İstiklal from Tünel up to Taksim, then back down into the side streets — Çiçek Pasajı and the fish market lanes — for dinner.

The Galata Tower queue is the thing most likely to eat an hour of day two for very little. The view of the tower is better than the view from it.

What this plan is built around
Not a list of sights, but the closures: the Grand Bazaar on Sundays, the mosques around each of the five daily prayers and for longer on Friday midday, the museums on their weekday, and how long a crossing actually takes once you have found the pier.

Other lengths
Checked on 5 September 2026. Opening patterns and prayer-time closures change — confirm before you travel. All sixteen sights, one page each, in Landmarks & Sights.
